DVLA Registrations & The Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (also known as D.V.L.A Vehicle Registration Offices):
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is abbreviated as the D.V.L.A for Car registrations purposes. The DVLA was formerly referred to as the DVLC. The DVLA is the Government Agency responsible for maintaining the database of drivers, DVLA number plates and DVLA car registrations of all the Drivers and vehicles registered in Mainland Britain.
Based in Swansea, the DVLA Registrations Agency is also responsible for issuing vehicle registrations, both personalised plates and ordinary vehicle registration marks. DVLA Number plates and car registration marks were all historically transferred through the local DVLA Registrations Number plate transfer Offices, which were located around the country. As of late 2013, as part of the DVLA modernisation of DVLA Vehicle Registration processing the entire network is being closed. NO DVLA local office will exist after December 2013 and DVLA Central processing centre will issue all paperwork centrally.
Northern Ireland no longer has its own number plate Agency, as previously their own agnecy held the records for car registration numbers and number plates in Northern Ireland. These are now being administered by DVLA and Irish Registrations are legal and very popular car registration marks used in the Mainland UK as well.
